Adam Mickiewicz University (AMU) is one of the major academic institutions in Poznan and one of the top universities in all of Poland. Its reputation is founded upon tradition, the outstanding achievements of its faculty, and the attractive curriculum offered to its students; students may choose between 180 possible professional specializations. The overarching mission of the university is to advance knowledge through high quality research and teaching which is made possible in partnership with various local businesses, professionals, public services and other research and learning providers.
Poznan is one of the largest cities in Poland. The city population is about 550,000, though the Larger Poznan Metropolitan Area (PMA) is inhabited by nearly 1.3-1.4 million people, making it the fourth largest metropolitan area in Poland. It is the historical capital of the Wielkopolska (Greater Poland) region and is currently the administrative capital of the province called Greater Poland Voivodeship. Today, Poznan is one of the largest Polish centers for trade, industry, sports, education, technology, tourism and culture; it is a particularly important academic center with about 130,000 students living in the city center.
Accommodations for students studying at AMU will usually be located at a hotel in the city center or at a hostel/bed and breakfast just a short distance from downtown.
As AMU is a partial exchange program students will pay the Partial Exchange Program Fee to Appalachian State. AMU will cover the housing costs for students during the program. Students will be responsible for budgeting for their meals.

Students are encouraged to start planning for their study abroad program costs well in advance. OIED Scholarships
Each semester OIED offers a variety of different scholarship opportunities for students. Scholarship awards range from $250 to $2000.
Benjamin A Gilman Scholarship
The Gilman Scholarship Program application is open to U.S. citizen undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study and intern abroad programs worldwide.
Fund for Education Abroad
Applicants from groups underrepresented in study abroad and those destined for non-traditional locations are given preference, in an effort to make the demographics of U.S. undergraduates studying abroad reflect the rich diversity of the U.S. population.

To locate specific course offerings please visit AMU’s short course webpage. Students will notice that short courses offered in English appear on the left hand side of the webpage and can be opened in order to view the corresponding syllabi. Fall semester courses are listed as Winter semester at AMU.
All students are expected to maintain at least the equivalent of a full time course load according to Appalachian State and the host university while abroad (whichever is greater). Students participating on the AMU program will be required to enroll in 24-30 ECTS credits per semester.
