Study Abroad in Seville

The Study + Internship program in Seville allows you to make steady progress toward your academic degree while developing practical skills in fields such as marketing, management, finance, hospitality, and more. The program incorporates a professional internship placement into your semester or summer study program.  Our strong academic focus,  personalized placements, and multiple options and price ranges—from 8-week summer sessions to a full semester program - allow you to take care of those degree requirements and give your career a boost all while gaining the international experience you’ve been seeking.

Where You'll Study

Students take classes at the CEA Seville Center and one of CEA's partner institutions, Pablo de Olavide University or EUSA University Center. Enjoy interactive courses that incorporate a global perspective at the CEA Seville Center. Your learning comes to life through hands-on experiences that turn Seville into a living classroom. The Center is conveniently located in the center of the city, near Seville’s stunning la Giralda cathedral. Set on a pleasant campus just outside of the city center, Pablo de Olavide University offers modern amenities not often found in an urban setting, including athletic, laboratory, and technical facilities. Enjoy an immersive experience at this exclusive university. A private university located in the heart of Seville, EUSA University Center boasts one of Europe’s most modern educational settings. Take courses side-by-side with Spanish and other international students for a truly integrated experience. Students receive a transcript from the University of New Haven, CEA's School of Record, and either EUSA University Center or Pablo de Olavide University upon completion of their program.

CEA Study + Internship in Spain

Financial

Program Costs

Students participating on CEA programs will be billed through Appalachian the CEA program cost.  This will replace the Appalachian tuition & fees for the term they are abroad.  In addition to the CEA costs students will also be responsible for submitting a $200 OIED Program Development Fee upon acceptance by the Education Abroad Office.  The fee payment confirms your spot and is non-refundable. Appalachian students participating on a CEA semester program will receive a $250 credit on their invoice and $100 for a summer program.

3Students are encouraged to maintain a US based health insurance plan while abroad (to exempt out of AppState insurance students must follow the App exemption process - proving that they have insurance coverage for the entirety of the semester.
4Personal Travel and Spending amounts will vary by student and will be affected by how often a student goes out, travels, and the items they purchase.

Students are encouraged to start planning for their study abroad program costs well in advance. Please use the Student Financial Planning Worksheet to help estimate your anticipated expenses and your anticipated financial resources.  When planning for estimated additional costs students are encouraged to research currency conversion rates.

Scholarships

CEA Scholarships
CEA offers a variety of scholarship opportunities for students.  Scholarship awards range from $250 to $3000.

OIED Scholarships
Each semester OIED offers a variety of different scholarship opportunities for students. Scholarship awards range from $250 to $2000. 

Benjamin A Gilman Scholarship
The Gilman Scholarship Program application is open to U.S. citizen undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study and intern abroad programs worldwide.

Fund for Education Abroad
Applicants from groups underrepresented in study abroad and those destined for non-traditional locations are given preference, in an effort to make the demographics of U.S. undergraduates studying abroad reflect the rich diversity of the U.S. population.

Academics

Semester
CEA's semester internship program includes an academic seminar and an internship placement and 2-4 elective courses at the CEA Seville Center. You may choose to take up to 2 elective courses at UPO or EUSA. Your internship seminar meets for 22 seminar hours and you'll spend 120 hours at your internship placement. Together, your seminar and internship placement are worth 3 credits. CEA and EUSA courses meet for 45 contact hours/3 credits. UPO courses meet for 15-75 hours/1-5 credits.You may earn a total of 12-15 credits (up to 225 contact hours) over the semester.

Summer
CEA’s summer internship program includes an academic seminar and an internship placement. The internship seminar meets for 22 contact hours and you'll spend 120 hours at your internship placement over 8 weeks. Together, your seminar and internship placement are worth 3 credits. Your internship placement hours may vary depending on industry standards for your career field and will be determined after you arrive. In addition to your internship placement and academic seminar, you'll enroll in an additional 3-credit elective course, bringing your total potential earned credits to 6. Electives meet for 45 hours and run for 4 weeks in June to align with the academic study program offered at the CEA Seville Center. Courses meet at various times Monday-Friday; active learning components required by your courses may be scheduled for Fridays. Course options may be limited, as your primary responsibility is to fulfill your internship obligations, which include honoring your employer’s preferred schedule. 

Students must receive approval from their academic department for the internship and are encouraged to discuss the internship with their department before applying.

All students are expected to maintain at least the equivalent of a full time course load according to Appalachian State and the host university while abroad (whichever is greater). Each CEA program will have a different minimum credit requirement. How to Apply

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and some programs may fill up before the listed deadline. Each year applications for Fall, Spring, and Summer will open up on August 1st. Once open the deadline will be listed below and an Apply Now button will be available at the top and bottom of this page. Most applications will have a 2 part application process so students are encouraged to complete their OIED application well before the listed deadline.

Students applying to a CEA program should complete the CEA application while also completing the Appalachian application.
