Study for a Semester or Year in the Netherlands!

Institution

Study at one of the first university's established in the Netherlands! Travel by bike to classes, the library and cafes. Leiden University provides students with the opportunity to participate in vibrant student life activities so they can immerse themselves in the university and the city. Students can enroll in various courses taught in English including social sciences, philosophy, art and more.

Location

Leiden is a small town, so all university buildings are within walking or cycling distance. Due to the safe environment and the individual approach, students tend to feel at home fairly quickly. The surroundings of Leiden offer a wide range of recreational possibilities. The North Sea with its scenic beaches and dunes is eight miles to the west of Leiden. Behind the dunes are holiday resorts which bustle with life during the summer. To the northeast of Leiden are large lakes, which are excellent for sailing, windsurfing, rowing and, sometimes, when it is cold enough, for ice-skating.

Students are able to apply for the ISEP Exchange or ISEP Direct program. The major different between these two programs is how fees are structure. On the ISEP Exchange program students pay Appalachian tuition and fees plus the ISEP Full Exchange Fee. On the ISEP Direct program students will be billed the ISEP Direct program fee. Non-resident students should check to see if the ISEP Direct cost will be less than Appalachian out of state tuition rates.

Academic Calendar

  • Fall Semester: Late August to Mid January (Most classes will have exams that finish by late December)
  • Spring Semester: Late January to Late June (Some classes will have exams that finish by late May)

Housing

Students on the Leiden program will stay at university arranged housing.

Students participating on the ISEP Exchange program option will pay the ISEP Full Exchange Program Fee to Appalachian and will not pay housing or meal costs to the Dutch university.
