Hanyang was the first engineering college in Korea, and the largest in the nation. Hanyang has about 37,000 students in 23 colleges and 16 graduate schools. It was ranked 171 in the 2017 QS World University Rankings (43 in Engineering), and 15 in 2013 in The Times Asia University Rankings International Outlook. There are about 6,000 international students on campus annually through degree programs, language programs, exchange programs and the summer school program. Hanyang University has many notable alumni especially in the manufacturing industry and the film industry.
Seoul, the capital of the Republic of Korea, is among the world’s largest cities, with a population of more than 10 million. The city is said to be built on eight mountains—four inner mountains that surround the old city, and four outer—so expect some steep slopes and spectacular views. Seoul may be large and the pace of life often frantic, but that doesn’t mean there’s no chance to relax—nothing gets in the way of the daily tea ceremony.
Students on the Hanyang program will stay at university arranged housing.
Students participating on the ISEP Exchange program option will pay the ISEP Full Exchange Program Fee to Appalachian and will not pay housing or meal costs to the South Korean university.

Fund for Education Abroad
Applicants from groups underrepresented in study abroad and those destined for non-traditional locations are given preference, in an effort to make the demographics of U.S. undergraduates studying abroad reflect the rich diversity of the U.S. population.
For information about additional scholarships please visit our External Scholarships web page.
Hanyang offers a range of courses taught in English each semester. For more information please visit the ISEP Hanyang webpage.
