Spend a Summer in London!
Institution
The University of Roehampton is located a short walk from the River Themes and just minutes from the center of London. The International Summer School offers students the chance to study in the United Kingdom for either a three or six week period. An diverse array of courses are offered during each three week session.
Location
Roehampton is a parkland campus university located in south west London within walking distance of the historic royal park of Richmond. In 1625 King Charles I brought his court to Richmond Palace to escape the plague in London and turned the area into a park for red and fallow deer. London is a large city comprised of many different neighborhoods with Westminster at the heart of the capital and it’s a only short bus, tube or train ride from Roehampton to all of London’s major landmarks.

Housing
Summer School students will be housed on campus. Rooms are single occupancy study bedrooms with Internet connection and shared kitchen facilities. Accommodation is self-catering (no meal plan); there are plenty of cafés and diners on campus and in the local area if you are not sure of your culinary skills!
Housing costs will be billed through Appalachian State.

Students are encouraged to start planning for their study abroad program costs well in advance. Please use the Student Financial Planning Worksheet to help estimate your anticipated expenses and your anticipated financial resources. When planning for estimated additional costs students are encouraged to research currency conversion rates.
Financial Aid
Students must be taking at least 6 credits during the summer to be eligible to apply for summer financial aid. For more information please visit the Office of Student Financial Aid web page.
Scholarships
OIED Scholarships
Each semester OIED offers a variety of different scholarship opportunities for students. Scholarship awards range from $250 to $2000.
Benjamin A Gilman Scholarship
The Gilman Scholarship Program application is open to U.S. citizen undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study and intern abroad programs worldwide for at least 28 days.
Fund for Education Abroad
Applicants from groups underrepresented in study abroad and those destined for non-traditional locations are given preference, in an effort to make the demographics of U.S. undergraduates studying abroad reflect the rich diversity of the U.S. population.

Academics
Students participating on the summer Roehampton program will take one course per session. A full listing of the course offerings can be found on the Roehampton summer web page. Course offerings change each year so students should be sure to continue to check the website until the upcoming summer term's classes are updated. Each course will transfer back to Appalachian as 5 credits.
Students participating on the Roehampton summer program will be required to enroll in one 20 CATS credit course per summer session. For information about study abroad enrollment policies, credit approval, and credit and grade conversions please visit the Academics section of our website.
How to Apply
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and some programs may fill up before the listed deadline. Each year applications for Fall, Spring, and Summer will open up on August 1st. Once open the deadline will be listed below and an Apply Now button will be available at the top and bottom of this page. Most applications will have a 2 part application process so students are encouraged to complete their OIED application well before the listed deadline.
